John E. Sherrod is an electrical engineer with 41.5 years of experience in electric utility engineering and operations. John retired from Entergy Corporation, headquartered in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA, serves 2.6 million retail electric distribution customers in four states - Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas, and Texas. Entergy is the fourth largest electric utility in the United States.
John's primary areas of experience are in the general management of electric distribution operations, with special emphasis in major outage response. From 1998 until 2004, he held the position of Director, System Outage Response, with overall responsibility for Entergy's emergency preparedness and disaster recovery. John was personally responsible for developing the emergency preparedness and disaster recovery processes that have guided Entergy in its emergency response efforts since that time. In his role as "Storm Boss", he personally directed Entergy's emergency response activities for all major storms since 1998, including Hurricanes Georges, Isidore, and Lili, and several major ice storms and tornado/wind storms.
Under John's leadership, Entergy established itself as a leader in emergency response among electric utilities in the United States. During his tenure, Entergy has been awarded the Edison Electric Institute's Emergency. Response/Assistance Award all six years the award has been offered, the only utility in the nation so honored. John has Bachelor of Science degree from Mississippi State University.
