This is Craig, one of the trustees at Psoriatic Disease UK, who has had Psoriatic Arthritis and Ankylosing Spondylitis since 2011. Craig studied Sports Science at University and played a number of sports until his diagnosis, after which he went from competing in sports to struggling to walk in just a matter of weeks. It took Craig roughly a year to get a proper diagnosis, enduring countless GP appointments, scans and blood tests until one medical professional spotted what the symptoms were caused by.
Post diagnosis in 2011, Craig has been on a journey with numerous different treatments, including DMARDS and biologics, and since this time has had to mentally adapt to a new normal when it comes to exercise and daily life. He now accepts that on some days, a walk around the block is a win and that the days of playing regular competitive sports are long gone. Through being open with his friends and family, Craig has created a good support network of people he can lean on when his mental and physical health is not good to the point that now these people recognise when things aren’t good. Craig recognises the importance of gentle exercise and how positive it can make us feel when we are enduring the daily battle of psoriatic disease.
