Running for Hope: Andrea's Great North Run Challenge for Psoriatic Disease UK

On 13 September 2026, Andrea Weedon-Tomlin will take on the iconic Great North Run with a powerful purpose: raising awareness and vital funds for Psoriatic Disease UK.
For Andrea, this challenge is about far more than crossing a finish line. It is a deeply personal mission inspired by her family's experience of living with psoriatic disease.
A Journey Shared Across Generations
Andrea has been living with psoriatic disease for some time and understands first-hand the daily realities it can bring: pain, stiffness, fatigue and uncertainty. Recently, her family faced another difficult milestone when her 21-year-old son was diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis.
Watching a loved one experience symptoms you've battled yourself can be incredibly emotional. Andrea knows the challenges her son now faces, and seeing him navigate those struggles has strengthened her determination to make a difference.
"Seeing him face the pain, stiffness, and daily challenges that I know all too well has been incredibly difficult," Andrea shares.
Turning Challenges into Action
Rather than feeling powerless, Andrea and her son have chosen to take action together.
By fundraising for Psoriatic Disease UK, they hope to help raise awareness of psoriatic arthritis and support the ongoing work needed to improve the lives of everyone affected by psoriatic disease. Their goal is to contribute towards greater understanding of the condition, better treatments, and, one day, a cure.
Their story reflects the reality for many families in our community. Psoriatic disease does not affect individuals alone. It impacts parents, children, partners, friends and carers. When one person receives a diagnosis, the whole family begins a journey of adaptation, support and resilience.
Why Fundraising Matters
At Psoriatic Disease UK, we know that no one should have to face psoriatic disease alone.
As the UK's only collaborative, patient-led organisation supporting people affected by psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, and related conditions, we work to provide peer support, community, representation, and awareness for everyone impacted by psoriatic disease.
Fundraisers like Andrea play a vital role in helping us continue that work. Every pound raised helps us support patients, amplify lived experiences and advocate for better outcomes across the UK.
How You Can Support Andrea
Andrea has set herself the challenge of completing the Great North Run while raising £1,000 for Psoriatic Disease UK.
Whether you have been personally affected by psoriatic disease, know someone who has, or want to support a great cause, your donation can help make a difference.
Every contribution, no matter the size, is a message of hope to families navigating psoriatic disease.
